Bostik Enters the Rubber Flooring Market with its New GreenFusion Adhesive
Middleton, Mass. (Aug. 31, 2009) — Bostik Inc.’s Construction & Industrial (C&I) Business Unit has entered the rubber flooring market with the development of its GreenFusionTM single-component, urethane adhesive.
Formulated for indoor and outdoor rubber flooring installations, GreenFusion offers a fast initial grab/tack, is easy to trowel, simple to clean up, and once cured is not adversely affected by exposure to moisture or water.
"GreenFusion Rubber Flooring Adhesive is a zero-solvent, zero-VOC formulation that has minimal odor and features Bostik’s BlockadeTM antimicrobial protection, making it an ideal choice for green building projects seeking USGBC LEED certification," says Scott Banda, LEED AP, Bostik C&I Market Manager – Flooring Installation Systems.
Available immediately in four-gallon pails, GreenFusion adheres to most rubber flooring, tile, stair treads and nosing. It can be used over the full gamut of substrates common to rubber flooring installations — properly prepared concrete, plywood, cementitious-based patch/underlayments and terrazzo.
Over the past two years, Banda has spearheaded Bostik C&I’s market development activities in the rubber flooring arena — meeting with rubber flooring OEMs, commercial contractors and architectural firms to identify related unmet marketplace needs and specify new rubber flooring installation solutions. GreenFusion is a direct byproduct of those efforts.
"The rubber flooring market is mushrooming thanks largely to the segment’s use of recycled materials and the growing popularity of LEED-certified residential and commercial construction projects," Banda says. "Rubber flooring has always been durable, comfortable and cost-effective. And market innovations are further fueling rubber flooring’s resurgence, with the introduction of new textures, colors and patterns, and improvements in thickness and gloss."
More rubber flooring innovations are in the works. Bostik C&I plans to launch GreenFusion II before Surfaces 2010 next February in Las Vegas.
"GreenFusion II is a two-component polyurethane engineered for the most demanding installation environments," Banda says. "The follow-on formulation will contain 27% renewable content, be solvent- and VOC-free, and offer Blockade antimicrobial protection. GreenFusion II is designed for ultra-challenging rubber flooring installations — areas with heavy traffic, rolling loads, or extreme climate conditions."
